Dress Code

*DUE TO NAVIGATING POST-COVID CLIMATE, WE HOPE TO RESUME CLASSES SPRING OR FALL OF 2023*

Young ladies are required to wear an appropriate, modest dress or skirt and blouse. Please choose a dress that covers for many dance turns- no backless, strapless, spaghetti straps or halters.  Classy, elegant, semi-formal, school symphony/choir dresses are appropriate. Suggestion: a bolero jacket, wrap or shrug for cool banquet room and dance turns. No low-cut, plunging necklines. In order to be free to move to the dances, the hemline should be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.  Please wear tights/nylons for Cotillion (optional in summer “Manner Up!” classes if wearing dressy sandals). White gloves are required in Cotillion (gloves make it easier to dance with different partners, so as not to embarrass anyone with sweaty palms) and can be purchased at Bridal Veil Fashions on 41st Ave. in Capitola, or buy a basic pair at the first Cotillion classes for $ 5.00. (White gloves aren’t required in summer dining etiquette-only classes.) Please select a shoe with a closed toe and low heel, or dressy flats. Platforms, slings, wedges, boots, and open-toe shoes are dangerous when the girls dance.  Preferably, no rubber soles because they stick to the carpet.  No tennis shoes, flip-flops, Vans, Uggs, jeans, t-shirts, tank tops, hoodie sweat shirts or sweat pants, shorts, mini-skirts, mini-dresses, tube dresses, tube tops, swim suits, pajamas, slippers or chewing gum! (We do not sell Cotillion dresses.)

Young gentlemen are required to wear a long-sleeved button-down shirt tucked into nice pants with a belt and nice shoes without a rubber sole, if possible. Bring a tie to learn how to tie a tie in the first class and wear it to every class.  Top off your sharp look with a blazer/sport coat. No tennis shoes, Vans, flip-flops, jeans, t-shirts, tank tops, sweats, hats, sunglasses, shorts, board shorts, pajamas, slippers or chewing gum!

For Parents Attending Cotillion
Mothers, please dress in professional or party wear, similar to the description for the young ladies, or dress pants and blouse.
Fathers, please dress in shirt and tie, sport coat and dress slacks.  No jeans, flip-flops or tennis shoes, please.
